In a coastal Slovenian hospital, an idealistic young doctor struggles to remain human inside a system that rewards performance over empathy — until he begins to question whether his desire to save others is really about saving himself.

SYNOPSIS

On the Slovenian coast, young doctor Jan Rus begins his hospital internship determined to help people. Intelligent, sensitive and

slightly impulsive, he believes medicine is a moral calling — a place where compassion and competence naturally align. He is

wrong.

Each episode places Jan inside a different moral and emotional arena: bureaucratic absurdity, sexual farce, ideological debate,

high-stakes exams staged like football matches, overdoses that turn into operatic love stories. Around him orbit colleagues

shaped by different realities — Milena, a gentle Bosnian student chasing stability; Aleksander, a seasoned Macedonian doctor

forced to start from zero; and Luka, Jan’s razor-sharp philosopher roommate who questions whether “help” is anything more than

socially acceptable egoism.

Inside the hospital, hierarchy trumps empathy and performance often matters more than care. Outside it, family, money and

privilege blur the idea of merit. When Jan’s powerful mother reveals she once intervened to secure his place in medical school,

the ground beneath his identity collapses. The man who wanted to be morally clean must confront the possibility that he never

was.

As relationships fracture and illusions fall away, Jan is left with a stripped-down question: if helping doesn’t make you good, and

being right doesn’t save anyone, what remains?

In the end, medicine becomes less a heroic vocation than a daily practice — imperfect, compromised, and human.
